A group of newcomers got down and dirty recently at Knotty Threads. The activity was organized by Brenda Colbourne with Bev Lambeth, Daphne Field and me completing the foursome. We joined Ryan (the owner) to learn the technique involved in creating felted scarves.
Starting with nothing but the desire to make one, we chose the colours of wool, designed the patterns and then poured watering cans full of water over our creations. Under Ryan’s watchful eye, we soaked, squeezed, rolled and banged the scarves until each was dry enough to spread out and straighten. Two hours from the start, the scarves were ready for inspection–all sorts of colours and all types of designs–and then on their way home with four new and happy felters![/wa_restricted]
