Driving to Ganges with the sun shining and the water glistening marked the start of a fantastic day on the island. Following a delicious lunch at Auntie Pestos, the group headed to Brenda Walker’s studio. She’s an artist whose encaustic work includes colourful house, birds’ nests complete with tiny eggs and landscapes. She shows at Matticks Farm and her work is in the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria’s art sales and rental program.Brenda demonstrated her process of hot wax painting. Her studio was filled with samples of her work–some of it too wonderful to pass up. With good memories and packages under our arms, we headed for Ganges. Lots to see. Lots to explore. Coffee at Talia, which was once the telegraph office for the island, was perfect, sitting outside in the sun.By late afternoon, it was time to head for Gallery 8 to view recent paintings by Will Millar. The studio was filled with his supporters who had also come for the show’s opening. Wine and refreshments complimented the entertainment provided by Will and his pals. Irish songs and plenty of sing-along made for a great ending to a great day. Those who stayed over, spent the next day exploring other parts of the island.A day we all enjoyed, with happy memories that will linger on.[/wa_restricted]
