Having trouble finding a family doctor? Fixing healthcare was the topic of our November 7 luncheon. Our speaker, Dr. Trevor Hancock, is a Professor Emeritus at the School of Public Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria, and a contributor to the Victoria Times-Colonist.

His talk emphasized the importance of primary care and noted the difference between “health” and “illness” care. He argued for greater support for self-care, which accounts for a large part of our health care but is provided outside the regular medical system.

Sadly, Dr. Hancock did not tell us how to find a family doctor, but if you would like to learn more about his views on health care, the slides for his presentation are available here.
